FAQ:
This is probably the most common question I am asked. Your budget is probably one of your top priorities, especially just starting out. My job is to create graphics and websites that fit into your budget. I occasionally do pro bono work for non-profits or startups, but there is usually a waiting list. You can always let me know if you want to get added to the list.
I always send out an estimate ahead of time, and I will always let you know if I am reaching or believe I will exceed that budget (which is rare).
My rates are competitive, and I will be adding my rates to my website soon; but in the meantime please do reach out to me if you are concerned about your budget or would like to discuss my rates. I will work closely with you to make sure we stay in your budget and still give you a website or graphics that you can be proud of.
These days, access to graphic design software and other tools is available to just about anyone, which leads people to believe that they can just design everything themselves. While this is possible, especially for people who have an “eye” for design, the reason to hire a graphic designer is because we are trained how to put certain elements together in a certain way that will get your message across visually the way you want it to. Basically, we know how things should look and work together to convey a message to your target audience. Designers also are trained or have experience with several types of technology and applications to make the entire process a smooth one. We also LOVE doing this type of work!
Please see my blog post on this topic here.
Typically, I design websites using existing platforms. This saves time and money. I mainly use WordPress because of the wide range of features and ease of use. When I create a WordPress website, I can give you tutorials on how to update or post on it. However, I do have some coding background, and can use custom code if needed.
No. If you hire me to create graphics for you, they will NEVER be available for anyone else to legally use. If you find your graphic on another website, tell the website they need to take it down immediately, as it may have been stolen from your website.
I will occasionally use a graphic for my portfolio, blog, or social media, unless you ask me not to. I will always honor your request to not include it. The graphic that I create for you is yours and you have full control of where it can be used.
The quick answer: copyright laws. Most images that you find out there will be copyrighted, whether or not the creator mentioned so. The exception is when it is stated that the image is available to use – whether by purchasing a license or if the creator clearly identifies the graphic as free to use. I use mostly Adobe products. Most of the time I use Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I also occasionally use Dreamweaver, and a few other Adobe products.
